Ø Do Live-in Relationship
need to be registered in India?
Ans:
- No, in India, though live-in relationship is not illegal or an offence, it is
not required to be registered.
But,
very recently (as updated by 28th Feb. 2023), a PIL has been filled
before hon’ble Supreme Court seeking a direction to the Centre for framing an effective
rule to mandate registration of ‘live-in relationship’, as it states that
increase in crimes like rape and murder allegedly committed by live-in
partners.
And
such registration will lead to sufficient information being available for both
the party and also for the govt. regarding their marital status and other relevant
details. It will have a solution to identify the truth wherever if any false
case filled by women claiming to be in live-in relationship.
