STATUS
OF WOMEN IN INDIAN SOCIETY – AT A GLANCE
Indian
women counted for the half of the population. They are builders and moulder of
nations destiny. Gandhiji once said, "When you educate a man you educate a
man only, but when you educate a women you educate a family". Gone are
days when women were no better then housewives and nurses for the children. The
centuries of slavery are over. Today women are given education and they
established themselves in different spheres of life. In today's society women
are placed in high position. They have acquired important places in
administration. They can faithfully and intellectually perform their duties.
Women, today have successfully discharge their duties as administrators,
ministers, ambassadors, executives, teachers and so on. Today we have seen how
women are becoming scientist and are exercising their power in space research
programs. In music, painting, swimming and in the tracks of Olympic games they
are doing well even beating their male counterparts
Now,
the Central Government has given 33%reservation for women in Panchayat level.
Our State Government has made a remarkable history by giving 50% reservation to
women in panchayat level. Besides, various enactment are there for the
protection and improvement of the status of women. The Domestic Violence Act,
2005, also enacted for this purpose. But amidst this improvement of status of
women there remain much to do to remove the inequalities and oppression done to
them. Poverty and lack of gainful employment has to be removed. Though there
are series of schemes, projects and reformed laws, the social security and
gender equality still not established. Great hope from Indian women is seen in
recent times and Inen will prove pioneer in this direction,
